Blood Group Poll

Post by MartinCurtis » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:34 pm

A while back on the FB page we did a little blood group comparing. It surprised me how many of us were Rh Negative, so I thought I'd get a bigger sample and ask on here: If you know your blood group please add to poll

It would be quite interesting to see if there was a large study, but it's quite complicated. I voted, and I too am b+. I'm not really sure it necessarily blood groups, I wish I'd studied genetics not the environmental biology side!!

I have no idea what blood group I am - nobody has ever told me and I've never seen it written on my notes etc. I'll have to ask next time I go to the hospital!

Smily_face what I found interesting is that Rh negative has a much lower incidence amongst Eastern countries than here in the West. UC is also much more prevelant in the West. Are these connected? On the FB page about 35% of respondents were Rh negative (expect 17%), but it was only a very small sample, hence this poll. I may need to move it to a different area as v. few people seem to visit OTHER.

It does seem interesting it is something I wish I could study! I believe a combination of factors play a part, if you look at the diets across the world, weather, abundance of ibd etc. I remember remember reading an article that said ibd was low in developing worlds because they were more likely to have worms which would aid in minimizing inflammation, but then there are obv a lot more problems!! Its is def anb interesting area of study, and it would be interesting if someone could 'pool' all the patient info in a healthboard or something to see if there were current themes!
I have been trying recently to eat a more natural diet whilst stopping my aza and cutting down mezavant for a couple of days, it has proved unsuccessful so far and restarted taking meds properly :( I just hoped I could cut down/ stop the meds!! Also yes you are right most folk don't seem to look hear!

Oh yes - a health pool would be a really great idea but it would need to be organised very carefully with specific questions to elicit specific information otherwise trying to make correlations would be impossible. It might also be worth having separate ones for different degrees of colitis ie, pancolitis, undifferentiated, distal, proctitis and don't knows... Unfortunately I don't know how to do this otherwise I would!
