My Ulcerative Colitis is under control 'Alhumdulilah'

Nearly three out of four ulcerative colitis (UC) sufferers (73 percent) responding to a new nationwide survey say not feeling well has become a normal part of life. Furthermore, they describe UC as disruptive when it comes to their relationship with a spouse (64 percent), their sexual relations (75 percent) and their emotional state (82 percent).
How do you cope with colitis ? Are you struggling with the emotional effects ? Even if a problem shared isn't a problem halved it may help to discuss it with people in the same situation.

My Ulcerative Colitis is under control 'Alhumdulilah'

Hello, I want to share my experience, I would be very glad if any of you benefit from it. I was diagnosed with UC last year i was told by the Dr. that it is really bad, it made my life so hard as many of you have experienced, I tried every thing told by the Dr./herbal/ chinese/hikmat but nothing worked at all I stopped eating and drinking and lost too much weight I started to look old at the age of 34. I was going to the toilet for 12 to 16 times a day, not joking promise. I was fed up. but guess what I am ok now :yes: I want to share what really worked for me;
1- I prayed desperatly to my God and asked for my health.
2- To stop flare ups I drank fresh pomegranate juice every morning.(only fresh)
3- To stop bleeding and infection I used Neem powder drink twice a day at first then once for a week or two. buy neem powder from Asian grocers if you can get it fresh it is perfect. boil 1tsp of powder with small dice of ginger and half tsp turmeric in glass of water, pore it in cup leave the bottom drink in the pan. it taste horribly bitter but my advise is to hold your breath and drink in one go. in my country old people used it for all sort of diseases, e.g. purify blood, ulcers, skin problems.
4- To stop wind I chewed fresh green mint.

yes, when i drink fresh pomegranate juice i can eat everything.
The person who told me about pomegranate juice he also told me to eat sensibly untill i get absolutaly better. He stopped me to eat meat, starchy food and row fruits/veges and anything which can be hard to digest. Ideally i should be taking more boil vegetables with brown bread for lunch/barley porridge for breakfast and goat milk which is easy to digest. i should be eating less and it should be every 2 hours.
To be very honest the day i felt better i couldn`t stop myself for eating, i was so weak i had to eat proper food. which is at the moment ok. Oonnly tea make me sick again. and i go back to my healthy diet plan again for few days.
Still i am new to this experience and have lot to learn about mybody. wish you good luck. thanks for taking interest

Ty for this i still have had no info on what diet to choose with Uc i was given a low fibre diet sheet and thats it.
I have been having dairy , but no wholemeal products. Very little veg and two apples a day. All of which is getting me down because i love my fruit and veg but the sheet says to boil the veg within an inch of its life and i hate veg like that. No veg or fruit with a skin or a pip, i cna have the apple if i peel it.
I feel really limited on the food front.

Hi Jane, know what you mean. I got told by my ibd nurse in September to stop eating fruit, veg and salad etc which I am really annoyed at as I love my fruit etc. She also said not to eat anything that cannot strain through a sieve. Really limits your options. I've also got a 7 year old who has had stomach pains from birth who will not eat veg so I can imagine what she will say if I tell her Mummy can't eat veg etc cos it makes her tummy hurt!

Hi Jane! I was sleeping a lot as well I thought it is because i can't have enough sleep at night but it was because of weakness. i was sleeping whole day. this is another reason you should drink fresh pomegranate juice, in one week you will feel like a whole new person. Normally pomegranate makes you consipated. in our condition it is blessing from God, Once you will have control over your flare ups then you can sortout what food suits you. In UC you need to listen to your body, take it slow and start introduicing food one by one and see the reaction. one person i know he is only alergic to tomatoes, in my case tea gives me cramps. you are different, no Dr. can help you for this you have to do this for your self. Good luck

I'd just like to add that for the past few days I've been having a glass (~250ml) of Pomegranate juice and things have REALLY improved. I'm sleeping better and not running to the toilet 8 times a night. The urgency has improved, as has the consistency!

I normally have my breakfast, THEN follow it up with ~125ml of pomegranate juice. The last thing I drink before bed is another ~125ml of the juice. I bought 2 pomegranates and it took quite a while to get the juice from them and was a bit messy!
I looked into buying some from Tesco only to find that the majority of what they stock is less than desirable (very low percentage from concentrate and a whole load of added other stuff) BUT.....they do sell one called "POM Wonderful." It was really well hidden at Tesco so am glad I had a proper look around the chilled juice sections.

It's got a funky bottle (which adds to the price!) http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco-price-comparison/Chilled_Juice/Pom_Wonderful_100_Pomegranate_Juice_473ml.html

£2.93 per 473ml bottle. So for me that's essentially one bottle every 2 days. £2.93 for my health and some control of my life? Any day!
Meds; [asacol]: Doesn't work (stopped) [azathioprine]: Doesn't work (stopped) [prednisolone]: Used to work [infliximab]: Doesn't work (stopped) [methotrexate]: Doesn't work (stopped)
Foods; Pomegranate juice: Helping!

Ultimately we all realise that our health is our most important asset.
