Sacral Nerve Simulation

Postby rclayton » Sun Jul 04, 2010 3:21 pm

Hiya-this is my first post, so please go easy on me!:)

My girlfriend has been suffering from colitis for the last 3 years and has been unresponsive to all treatments so far - asacol (tablets and foam), steroids (tablets and foam, although she responded to IV but the benefits were short lived when she came off the drip), azathiaprine and adalimimab. Her consultant has started to seriously talk about surgery, but before that happens we've asked about any other potential treatments. Our consultant has recommended a research trial which looks to use sacral nerve stimulation for ibd. I was wondering if anyone else has been involved in this and could give me some feedback on their experiences?

Other alternative therapies that have been mentioned (although not seriously at this moment) include ciclosporin and blood transfusions - although we've be told that the adalimimab in her system will need to decrease before she could start on ciclosporin. Has anyone any experiences for either of these?
